When I mentioned last month that there might be a delay getting them out of the freighter mods I was mocked.

Time will tell.

Diamond,

This makes no sense. I am not stepping on you but why would the company reopen the hiring website and call poolies? Besides, the Captain seats were filled it is the F/O seats that are still vacant...

If seniority rules, then why wouldn't they stay in the CONUS???

Whale: not to rain on your parade, but if there are no vacancies posting in CONUS then they might take an FDA. The company is playing both ends and covering their bets. Take a poll on interest from the poolies while they offer up the remaining vacancies to the over 60 guys who might have to wait for a bid to move back to a window seat. If they fill the FDA with over 60 (or other fence sitters) then no harm done by "polling" the poolies, but no job offers either. We will see just how badly some of those over 60 guys want to get back to a window seat, taking a bird in the hand and betting it might be a while before the can get one in the bush (a bid with CONUS vacancies).

Of course, they may not need a bid, that has yet to be determined, and there is no telling how long that will take to resolve. Quickest way to a window seat might be grabbing a right seat in an FDA. Plus not all of the over 60 guys could hold Captain (although I'm sure that is a tiny fraction of them) and might be interested in a quick trip back to a right seat.

Who knows what will happen?

Bohica,

That is a very interesting concept. Never thought of it that way. One thing for sure is this will all come to play very soon.

Merry Christmas

Has there been any talk of a new bid coming out?
I heard from a reliable source that there will be one last bid to see if there are any last-minute FDA takers... after that we will know whether new-hires are required or not.
I would speculate that CDG will fill up while HKG might still have some open seats after the bid...

I would bet that some of these potential takers are empty nesters or single guys who have been given an additional 5 yrs. Some may want the experience of living out of CONUS...and if it does not live up to their expectations, retire.

Makes A LOT of sense for the company, to reopen the bid. Doesnt cost much to call around and get an idea of where everyone stands.

Actually, I think there may be LESS takers on the FDAs now that the age 60 thing has passed. Think about it, if there is a possibility of five years or more of stagnation, would someone who wanted to do the FDA thing for a couple of years and then come back really want to risk leaving for what may be five years or more?

The 1st one wasn't even scheduled to be available for service, until in FEB 08.

I suppose you have some secret intel? Or, just the usual cynicism?

You realize that Feb is but one month away. The first conversion isn't even done yet, and it is supposed to start test flights in Jan. That is but days away.

I personally don't think it will make it, and I'm not basing it on a reading from Miss Cleo.

Time will certainly tell if I am whistling dixie or if I might have heard and seen a thing or two.
