Default FDX - Hotel Points

There was an ALPA message many moons ago (I think in Sig Notes?) that said we were working with the company (who was working with the hotels) about getting hotel points for our stays. Anyone know if this is still being worked on? This could be a pretty good deal for us....

Default Points for Pilots

I remember the same communication and haven't heard a thing since then.

I always give the front desk worker my card. I let the hotel decide if I'll get points or not. I usually wind up with credit for the stay but no points. After so many stays you can earn the different hotel levels.

"But you don't pay for your room" - That is a bogus argument I hear. How many of the people you see in a nice hotel have to pay for their hotel room instead to their company paying?

Exactly! it's simply a contractual issue that FDX decided to negotiate away...

It is probably more the fact that Fedex gets discounted rooms, free internet, and checks in and out outside of normal hours. The hotels probably don't want to give points on top of these perks.

Marriott Courtyards seem to be the best for giving us points, except the one in Marina Del Rey. They used to, now the don't even take the card.

We got to keep hotel points at a previous airline (and our contract rates were MUCH CHEAPER!). I still have a ton of Marriott points.

It seems like a very small perk, but when you think about it, it could be as good a deal as airline miles. I fly a fair amount of commercial deadheads, but stay in way too many hotels. Anyway, there was some talk about this months ago, but I haven't heard anything since. I usually give my card to the hotel, but I rarely get credit for points or a stay.

I haven't stayed at the Courtyard Marina Del Rey in a long time. They used to have a little sign taped on the front desk that said they appreciate airline crews and would give them points. I have never seen anyone else do that, but I guess they changed their mind.

It seems like a fairly easy thing to get when negotiating an airline contract. Alot of hotels want our business, it fills rooms every night, not just a seasonal rush. Many times we don't use our rooms, and you know they rent those out when they can and, at the very least, don't have to clean them. I'd like to see a renewed emphasis on this, it would be a nice perk...

I think the deal was that when each hotel's contract with FDX came up for renewal they were going to get points for us. So if the hotel you are in tonight signed a two-year contract with us 6 months ago, don't expect it to change for a while.

Since I don't know when hotel contracts are redone I haven't been able to ops-check this. Maybe the company or the SIG could publish a monthly or quarterly list of the contracts that have been renewed and which hotels in the system are now giving us points.

After grueling research, it was May 07 Sig Notes where this was brought up"

The hotel committee and CTS are working on bringing Affinity points to the crew force. We are exploring “hotel points” provisions in new hotel contracts. We will be working with National Reps and local hotels to work hotel affinity points into the program for FedEx pilots. As you can imagine, this is a delicate path that we’re traveling down with this venture. The "hotel points" is not a switch that we turned on to immediately get points. Please do not present an exaggerated sense of entitlement when dealing with hotels and points. This is a plan for the future that we are working on now. We will keep you posted through the SIG Notes Hotel Solutions in the coming months. If you know of any hotels that do give you points now please let us know. We would like to cement those deals for the crew force.

I guess this is being worked on, but I haven't heard anything since. Like I said, it would be a very good freebie for us. I am not sure how many free hotel nights it would equate to, but maybe enough to use for a small family trip. It might be very beneficial to commuters that don't have crash pads....
