Practice Bid?

Was it on your standing bid?

SECTION 24
FILLING OF VACANCIES
C. Bid Award Procedure
5. FDA Vacancy Awards
b. No pilot may be assigned involuntarily to fill an FDA vacancy. If no pilot on the Master Seniority List expresses a preference by standing bid for an
FDA vacancy, the Company may hire a pilot to fill that vacancy.
If you didn't have HKG Captain on your standing bid, then you should not have been awarded HKG. If you were, then file a grievance - it would be a slam-dunk in your favor.

Ok, so based on this thread and the "Interesting domino reaction" thread, it seems to me that everyone should bid 30CA in HKG and see who gets lucky. I doubt if they are going to create an aditional 37 positions when 30 FO seats are still vacant, so some should get passover pay for sure. For the rest, W/B FO for all my friends...The company and DW created this mess with the 65 retro, crappy LOA and canceled bids, so let them live with it, or fix it so no one gets left behind. After all, isn't it the right thing to do? Interesting times indeed...SG

Underdog never said that he didn't bid it. He was simply telling Diamond that he was awarded HKG as a result of being excessed out of his current seat. Diamond appeared to maintain that you could not get excessed to a FDA, but that is not the case. You just can't get excessed to an FDA if it causes and excess at the FDA. And it appears that the company decides how many seats constitutes and excess in any seat, not the number advertised in the posting.
That is at least how I read it.

Falcon,
The way I read it, is along the lines DZ is reading it. You can't get excessed out of your domicile unless you have it on your bid sheet...so if you get excessed and you can hold either ANC or HKG, AND they are on your bid sheets, well then expect to pack or commute.

I am trying to understand why people are surprised that they were excessed there, on the practice bid, if it was included on their standing bid.

When I read Underdog's post, I have to assume he bid HKG. He hasn't replied, but if you go back through the thread his post was a reply to Diamond saying that you couldn't get excessed to an FDA, period. Underdog did, but yes he would have to have bid it.
I think we're chasing tails here.

I think I really understand the confusion now, and it is simply a matter of semantics. DiamondZ said that you can't get "excessed" in an FDA, and by that he meant involuntarily excessed. Technically, you can get excessed voluntarily (depending on how you bid) and that is what most folks were keying on, myself any way.
