More 747 and MD-11s for UPS

Didnt mean to hijack the thread. Lil J, first of all, love the JT avatar. I guess they didnt hate me. Is there any possibility the DC-8 emergency could have delayed or pulled attention away from interview approvals?

I got a pool letter from HR. I updated my flight time every 2 weeks after that. Thought it would help to bug them. It didn't hurt!
Maybe with these new airplanes I won't have to be displaced to the 727. That would be excellent. Thanks for the info FC.

I waited 4 weeks, 3 days (not that I was counting) for the pool letter to come, then waited another 2+ months for the med call, then another 1+ month until class date. Just flying below the radar for another "enter your number here" months until probation is done...

40 of 50 727 FE's, 90 of 110 DC-8 FE's and all 747 FEs are over 60. Many of them will retire when the contract gets signed, but some of the old geezers are talking about beng furloughed due to lack of seats when more captains hit 60.

Are we so overstaffed that there's no room to move a handful of 757 FO's back a few numbers in their seat? Aren't we just going to hire more 757 FO's in a month or two anyway?
This makes no sense to me. But I'm not that smart.

BTW, I say "old geezers" with the highest degree of respect intended. It is unfortunate that those who want to retire are not able to under the current retirement. A career UPS truck driver gets 100% more in retirement than a 30year UPS pilot (which there aren't any).

Also, I don't think they could get away with furloughing the over 60 FE's before first furloughing any new hire FE's. I would think that would be a big no no.

It sounds to me that UPS management is being very short sighted by not settling your contract ASAP. They would be better off pay protecting those guys to sit at home or offering them an early retirement. But then again, when does management ever do anything that makes sense.
Secondly, I doubt UPS is that short sighted. I'm just guessing, but it's likely the new contract will have some kind of fence or incentive language to prevent or preclude all of the over-60 guys from leaving at once.
