FWIW, the UPS System CP said 8 DC-8s will come out of the desert if the deal gets signed. The time frame will be dependent on the FAA and how cooperative they are with respect to inspections, records, etc.

Unless you spoke to JB youself, I don't remember any public statement from UPS regarding how many DC-8s might be brought back into service.

How little air volume? DHL's overnight sort is 30% the size of ours in package volume. You think our existing fleet can absorb that without additional flying? I don't.

Once again, a fair amount of the volume on DHL's contracted planes in the US is actually ground volume and will not fly on UPS planes.

I never said and don't think that we can absorb that volume without additional and/or larger aircraft. My point is that there are going to be lots of disappointed UPS pilots when management figures out a way to handle the additional volume with minimal new aircraft and crewmember hiring. Just because DHL currently utilizes 106 ABX and Astar aircraft to fly their volume doesn't mean that UPS will need anywhere near that same number.

We all knew this was coming, it has been a long time planned event. Nothing new. I am only glad to see the planned reduction in crews per fleet not in effect (yet??). Oh well, off the 8 I will go via secondary displacement.

This long planned event was followed through with (like other reductions in fleet size without corresponding increases in other fleets) due to our group's very predictable "schedule execution".
