I believe you need three letters to be considered competitive at UPS. Those letters should be from someone who has actually flown with you. A letter from someone who never flew with you will carry very little weight, if any at all.

Sad thing is that the compensation chairman and the deputy director of scheduling have been going around quoting their own number....AND IT IS LOWER!!!

I don't think we even do letters anymore, do we?

YEs it does. Of course, it didn't stop the guy that runs the show from getting his brother in law hired. They won't know from the application, and if you don't tell them, they won't know that way either.

No, it's more like a 15 essay question rec. form. It took me 6 hours to do the first one.

Question

“I believe you need three letters to be considered competitive at UPS. Those letters should be from someone who has actually flown with you. A letter from someone who never flew with you will carry very little weight, if any at all.”

- 3 letters will do it???

- Hmm, I wish you were right. I have 4 great online recommendations and have flown with 3 of the pilots. And btw, you’re correct Freighpuppy - the recommendation form is very looong and thorough, which is why I appreciate the recommendations my friends wrote for me even more – they spent many hours “writing essays.”
- I also have a letter of recommendation from a UPS driver which I was able to bring to a couple of job fairs I attended. My stats: 3,300pic part121, 6,700tt, - still waiting…

It’s ok, I’ve been trying since June 2000 and I am not about to give up now! Fortunately, my friends keep encouraging me too!

Hope it works out for us all!

Default Recommendation Letters

All of my recommendations are from guys I have flown with, many for years. I have been told maybe 3 letters for FredEx but only 1 is needed for Big Brown(3 people have proven this). I guess good info is hard to find, and no one really knows what hiring is thinking. Good luck and I'll keep waiting because I have no other choice. Fed-UP
P.S. Anyone want to go flying and then write a letter over coffee for a real good guy?

Default FedEx Hiring

To get the FedEx call you need:

1. Continuously updated online application,
2. 3-5 online recommendations from current FedEx Pilots you've flown with in the past,
3. Meet and greet w/ Chief pilot or Asst. Chief Pilot (Yes you have to go to Memphis, or a job fair)
4. FedEx Pilot to "sponsor" your application.

Easy!

Just to clarify...and I think it's been pretty well described already...UPS does not accept "letters of recommendation." I frequently receive email requests from friends or acquaintances requesting that I write a "letter" for them.

UPS revamped the recommendation process back in September and now requires an "essay" type form to be filled out online by the employee who is submitting the recommendation. It's very comprehensive and it is the only way UPS will accept a recommendation.
