UPS Hiring Part II
#1
According to a high-up management pilot on our jumpseat a few days ago:
1. Planning on hiring 300 in 2006; hiring rate to pick up soon
2. Going to empty the hiring pool
3. New-hire pay in the new contract will be high $40Ks; 15 year captain rate of $235
4. Looking for up to 40 747-400Fs (currently 10 are existing, known orders)
He said the above intel came from a meeting last week in SDF. FWIW.

15 year Captain pay of $235. The 12 year pay right now is $190. From year 2 to year 12 there is approximately a 60k jump so about a 6k per year average. For a 15 year pay scale that would be $208. I think there will be 2700 +/- 30 "no" votes. Particularly when the A380 has the potential to carry the equivalent of the GDP of a small country in revenue. I don't know, but there better be something a little more interesting in the TA. The huge desparity lies in the FO pay. It takes us 6 years to get up to 2nd year pay at FedEx.

It seems there are always some left wading while others interview and barely get their feet wet before heading off to class.

This looks like negotiation by rumor and your (unwittingly) part of it. Let your negotiating committee tell you what happening not some upper manager who had a totally different agenda to you and your fellow (Brown) pilots.

Believe it when you see it in writting from your negotiating committee. We have heard all kinds of wild "promises" from our management types in order to distract us from the fact that we have been negotiating a contract for over two years!

This is all very exciting but can someone tell me what it really takes to make my phone ring with a call from Louisville? I exceed qualifications and have a letter from a Ups Pilot and 2 from FedEx. Can anyone of you guys find it in your heart to write me a letter and find out where I am in the heap of applications? I would appreciate it. I am not one of those people that want a job because their first choice is now in bankruptcy. Words of encouragement would also be appreciated. Thanks, Fed-Up
