While I'm sure that you have used the F word towards management at UPS, has mgt used the F word in any official correspondence towards the line pilots?

First of all, it's the American way...look at the whole money fiasco. Refinance as a form of income and then act surprised when the well runs dry.

Having had my first (unfortunately not last) furlough 18 years ago I get it. In many career paths in this business it's like death and taxes...they WILL come, it's just that you hope one is on the front end of several years and the other on the other .

Stability is the whole reason I sought this place out when 90% of the rest of the crowd was drooling over UAL, AA and DAL. A CFO friend of mine (who didn't know or care about airlines at the time because he was in the tech biz out here in CA) did an overview of the companies (not just pax carriers) that hired pilots, and in '90 told me to seek out (in order) a job at UPS, FDX and SWA and then a small handful of corporations with dedicated flight departments due strictly on their balance sheets and business models. It's no accident that IMO UPS will be the last operator to furlough, if at all.

Having said that...I keep my CFI current, so even I'm a bit paracautious when it comes to this business.

We know you are still here, but the thread is about the possiblity of a "F" at UPS. As crappy it is for you guys, the reality of the outcome of the DHL deal will probably have consequences for many UPS pilots. You may not like it, I may not like it, but that is reality.

Default FDX guarantee reduction

Anybody here qualified to explain the guarantee reduction thingy over at purple, along with it's actual purpose and longevity? Conditions under which the former guarantee will be restored? Has that approach been used at other companies for the purpose of furlough mitigation (if indeed that's what it's for)?

Don't look for that to last if they can't get loans to pay for it.

This semester just started so I think they'll be fine for a while, also their tuition is paid for with the state lottery money...

Either way, I do NOT think the sky is falling - it'll be challenging but that's all.

Hey, that's just business. If UPS needs to downsize their fleet a bit to match the business market, that just makes good business sense.

That's reality also.

If they do, I heard they are going to start with all of the Scandanavians first.
