As an example, I give you the guy who just posted that we're going to furlough 300 to 1000 pilots. Where does crap like that come from, and why do we just jump on with the hysteria?

As I said in an earlier post, it seems to me that in certain situations where someone has left a job, the information surrounding that decision to vacate is usually NOT forthcoming. It's usually NOT in the interests of the parties, regardless of your (or mine, or anyone else's) "need" for that information. It's just the way business has been done, and continues to be.

Agreed JJ. The union simply follows the company's example of keeping everything behind a shroud of silence and secrecy. I believe it is the most effective way of keeping the sheep in the pen. Avoid transparency and maintain control. No surprise here.

In this game trust no one. Ever. The longer I am in this job the more I feel like it has become a weak version of professional wrestling.

JJ,

If that's not the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is. If 60 or ND is written on this board ain't nobody can attain full biotch faster. I don't know which thread the guy mentioned the 300-1000 pilots. I too read it. I thought he stated he had "heard" and wanted to know if others had heard the same thing. I don't really see that everyone is jumping on the furlough hysteria wagon. The RCP for Asia told the Subic pilots last week that the company is 200-500 pilots overmanned. Okay. Does that necessitate mass hysteria?....No. A concern?...Perhaps. For you? Apparently not.

The "crap" you refer to, comes from everyone. That's the beauty of these boards. Unfortunately, sometimes it's the only place to get the other side of the story, or information both the union and the company are unwilling to disseminate. Thanks to this board, a buddy of mine will be getting passover pay from the HKG debacle. And yes, I did mean to refer to it as a debacle. Otherwise, it would have been filled several postings ago. Along with the good on this board, one must sift through the crap. An example, IMO, is the analogy of a union to a "sort of corporation."

Judging by the number of posts you've made, the crap hasn't bothered you that much. Shrooms like it too.

Proponent of hysteria......."It'll go senior."

The 300-1000 number comes from "O" speaking to a recurrent ground school class. He said he couldn't give the exact number but it was between 300 and 1000. So, in answer to your question, that is where crap like that comes from.

I disagree with your statement about the "information surrounding that decision." As a dues paying member I am entitled to transparency when it comes to my ALPA leadership.

Rather than get "hysterical" I emailed my block rep (Albie) and asked him directly if DW fired FE. I expect a truthful answer.

Good luck with your answer. Let us know what you find out.

Yeah, good luck with your answer. I've asked the same question to a number of reps (direct e-mails) and the answer I get back is that "FE submitted his resignation and the MEC accepted it" and "If you want more information, talk to FE directly". NO REP HAS GIVEN ANY ANSWER TO MY DIRECT QUESTION: DID DW INITIATE FE'S FIRING WITHOUT FIRST DISCUSSING IT WITH THE MEC? And they wonder why they can garner no unity from this pilot group!! No one trusts them any more. This is what we pay for????

I hope every pilot is writing their reps and demanding to know why this has happened!! But I doubt anyone will get an honest answer.

Fred, why don't you just pick up the telephone and call F.E. and ask him for his story? You can then post your findings here so we can all sleep better.

I guess I could do that, but then so could you and you could let us all know. Maybe I'll ask FE if he'd mind if I posted his side when I talk to him. However, I pay my dues to this union and expect answers from them first. It's about transparency. Many of us are tried of playing the "I've got a secret" game that our MEC and officers play.

Default Get it right...

Just to clarify, from the FDX MEC POLICY MANUAL:

A.1.f. Unless otherwise stated in this Section, committee chairmen/members will serve at the discretion of the MEC.

DW only has the power to temporarily suspend a committee chairman. The way to get rid of someone is:

A.9.b. The MEC Chairman may temporarily suspend the authority and/or actions of any committee or individual member thereof subject to final review and action by the MEC. Notice of such suspension shall immediately be made to the MEC.
c. Any committee member may be removed from a committee at any time, either with or without cause, by majority vote of the MEC.
d. The chairman of a committee may be removed from chairmanship thereof without necessarily removing him from that committee.

I hate to stand up for DW, but this wasn't done by him alone. Also, you probably won't get a straight answer from your rep because they were in on it.

The rule is, as a Union volunteer, play the way they want or get out. Doesn't matter what your contributions are, just whether you toe the line as DW sees it. If you can stomach that, then you can play. If you can't, you can quit or get fired.

To save you all the trouble I've done just that. Fred did not resign. He was fired. He may have been forced to submit his resignation, but it was directed by DW.

He does not want to make a big public statement because, rightly so, he doesn't want it to look like he's the one who started the $hit storm that's building.

Bottom line: He's a stand up guy working hard at something he is quite good at, but he's no quitter. Looks to me like he was beginning to become a force and DW felt the pressure and terminated him.

My question is, why would a lame duck Chairman on his last 2 months be worried about a committee chair getting too much power or attention unless it's to pave the way for someone he's grooming to succeed him. Is anyone willing to support office holders from the current administration to continue in office? Just a question....

discuss away boy's and girls.
