Define "look sick?" I fly around the world every month. I look sick and fatigued every day.

Read the message line again. It's about your rights to use sick leave if you are sick. Whether it be in the field, at home, after showtime, doesnt matter. You have a right to use it. Its also about Flight managment abusing their discretion and questioning us. If you get called or emailed, call the union first. Let the union reps do what they are there for. To represent us. Its good advice. Management will start taking prisoners. I say again, let the guys in representation help you. You wont regret it.

The message line insinuates that the company put the pilot in a sick status, and then accused him of abusing sick leave.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't we have an MD-11 Captain get bushwhacked in the Paris metro a few months back? Got busted up real bad and went to the hospital for a few days? Sick in the field? Company put him on the jumpseat back to Memphis, head bandages and all? Captain of the flight felt he was put in a very difficult situation? Lots of gnashing of teeth about having to transport a medical emergency on a 10 hour flight? So, if I get this right, you can go sick in the field and jumpseat on our aircraft IF the company wants you back, but not if they don't care if you get back? To quote Sgt Friday "Is that about it"? I wonder if the arbitrator will see the difference between two sick pilots trying to get home to their respective families, one who is on the clock in a Paris hospital and the other who is thrown under the bus? We shall see.

I know, that's the bizarre part of what Flight Management is doing these days. They violate the contract and then blame it on a crewmember.

I'm just saying, that doesn't match any of the mentioned situations.

In that case, welcome aboard, don't eat my catering and if you bleed out, do it in the Haz Can please! Seriously, sick in the field is a felony. Who could get sick in India, The P.I., Malaysia, Panama, Brazil or any of the other places we go? Not happening!!

Just remember, if you are ever called on anything about sick and "required" to give a doctors note. A letter from your doctor stating that "Mr XXX was under my care on the date in question" is all your doctor is allowed to say without your specific release. You do not have to release medical information to a third party. Reference: Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted by the U.S. Congress in 1996.

The company can require you to see their doctor but since you can't jumpseat while sick, I don't know how you can get there until you are will.
