But, isn't that "pretend" back-end D/H scheduled on a fictional FDX flt? Last time I went sick in the field that's what they scheduled me back on. There was no accepted fare for it.

If that's the case then you got hosed. CRS is not going to tell you what your rights are and what the CBA allows, you have to know that yourself.
Last time I got sick in the field was many moons ago and I was an S/O still pretty green with the company. I wasn't sure what to do and luckily the captain took care of me and told me to have scheduling buy me a ticket home on them. I don't live in Memphis so I had CRS build me a DH home and I took it after another night at the hotel in Detroit.

14 B. 4 states that the company has to provide transportation back to your domicile once you are able to travel. You wont earn credit hours for the DH but they will pay for your ticket. Sick leave is charged at the beginning of showtime after you call in sick in the field.

Not to say the company would ever do anything untoward, but, every time I talk with scheduling about an issue----they say they don't really know the contact.
Which, IMO, is BS. The contract is the water they swim in daily. They frequently deal with the oddball issues. Look at being sick in the field, you don't have to fly back to Memphis.....and yet CRS may try and put you on a FDX J/S.
Look at trip issues. CRS will almost always tell you it's just a reroute, even if you haven't left yet and it should be substitution.
One Capt I flew with suggested always saying what CRS wants to do sounds like substitution, and, if need be tell them you're going to look it up in the contract and give them a call back.
I'm not saying that CRS is EVIL
(not all of them anyways)
but they will try and slide one by ya from time to time

I went sick in the field on this contract.....went to the emergency room blah blah blah. Crew Scheduling was not the nicest, Duty Officer and ACP were great.
I actually stayed an extra day in the hotel (which they picked up the bill) because I was too sick to travel (approximately 36 hours after my "sick" call). Built the pairing with a Deadhead home, not on a FDX j/s to MEM.
If this happens to anyone, I would suggest leaving a message with your ACP for any assistance. When I did the expense report on FOX, just added the email from the ACP permitting the travel, as I had zero bank money for the month due to my schedule, and it was taken care of by Crew Travel Audit.
This was my experience. It was not contentious and worked as advertised per the contract.

The contract says that the Company will provide transportation. It does not specify what the transportation will be. Could be a van from CAN to MEM with a banca boat in between.....seriously.

True. Thanks to LOA#2 Paragraph N, a sweep of the pen is all that would take.

The contract also says: 14.B.4.
...Company shall provide transportation, when the pilot is able to travel, back to his base, or at the pilot’s option, to his residence provided that the travel cost is limited to the travel cost of returning to base. A pilot whose placement on sick leave causes him to return to base later than scheduled shall not accrue additional CH for that late return.
Sounds to me the pilot in your example could claim accepted fare CAN to MEM and get his own ticket.
