3 hours ANC alert??
Could an ANC veteran help a rookie out?
I got this in a welcome to ANC email.
"YOU NEED TO: contact our ramp ops folks 907 249-3333 and give them a
good lcl phone contact #. This is needed to alert you (3 hrs prior) for your
flt's. IF THEY CANNOT CONTACT/ALERT YOU, ramp ops and schd will start looking
for a replacement crewmember (-$$ IF THEY CANNOT ALERT YOU)..."
Maybe this is a stupid question (yes, I know ANC reserves have a 3 hour call out) - but.... Am I going to get an alert call 3 hours prior to departure for every pairing I fly out of ANC?
I looked in the contract and the only thing I was able to find was that an alert call for an international flight earlier than 2 hours prior would be considered an interruption of rest. But I guess that's N/A in this case because...............

You will get a call from the ramp 3 hours prior to very departure of every flight you have out of ANC. That will make it 2 hours prior to the show time of the trip. The easiest thing to do is give them your cell phone number, that way they will be able to find you no matter where you are staying. The system works great and has been in place since before I went up there 9 years ago.

Thanks. Makes sense w/ the R-3 call out - on the other hand, being replaced just because I'm not phone available 3 hours before my trip (or miss the call) would get me pretty riled up. Is there some common sense used in implimenting this "policy", "w.o.m." or whatever it is?

Since every flight out of ANC is considered INTL you get the alert.
One exception is MEM. If you fly INTL out of MEM, either originating or on a layover, you only get an alert if you ask for it (some special wording in FOM) and then they do it whenever they feel like it anyway.
FOM also requires you to notify the local ramp your room number and hotel for all INTL layovers so they know where to find you. There is some interesting stuff in that document if you ever bother to read it

call the ramp and tell them you don't want the call....they'll do that for ya. I wouldn't announce it to anyone else though.
The call out is definitely not in the contract, but it's what they do. They just want to make sure the trip is covered, which seems reasonable to me. They are a bunch of good guys/gals and will take care of you when you need it. Could you imagine Memphis calling you at home and asking, "Hi, this is ___ from Anc ramp, how are you? Your trip to IND is on time. We'll see you in a couple of hours. Your food is here, and you have 35 jumpseaters."
I'm sure someone on here has the background when it started. I would guess during the tiger days.
