Got a UPS interview!
#21
george, Congratulations on getting the interview. I have no current tips since mine was quite a while back, but be sure to bring any and all documentation with you, brush up on FARs, learn as much as you can about the Company, be yourself, display a positive interest in the job, and have a sense of humor. I know there is a lot of stress involved, but if you weren't qualified they wouldn't waste time talking to you. Best of luck and good hunting.

Browntail...
I can tell you didn't get hired from the military...where was was that came from that gave you such a lack of people skills? You happen to be working for a company that is doing quite well now, so your zero sum gain attitude with other pilots is really incomprehensible. Count your lucky stars and thank whoever that you lucked into your position...

Get your facts straight about UPS calling mostly women and minorities for interviews. We have pictures of ALL new-hires on our company website and most of the classes have very few, or no, minorities and/or women. There are some classes that are 100% white male.
Also, someone please tell me why those of you that are complaining about women and minorities are not complaining about the fact that since the airlines began in the 1940's, women and minorities could not get hired simply because they were women and minorities. So, it's okay to NOT get hired because you're a minority or woman but it's not okay to GET hired because you're a minority or a women.
My neighbor was a tuskeegee airman in WWII. Several years after the war he was hired by a major airline based purely on his resume and war heroics. His resume was so impressive he didn't even have to interview in person. (this was common in those days) When he showed up for class he was physically removed from the class and told not to come back. This story can be repeated hundreds and hundreds of times including US Air in the 1990's. They were busted for taking minority applications and changing the info to disqualify most of them. Why do i not hear you complaining about that?
Oh, by the way, i always laugh when i hear people say that "if i was a black female i could have gotten hired by United." The fact is that only 13 black females were hired in the 1990's. Thats right, 13. And some of those were military pilots so it's not like they were all low time pilots. This is fact not my opinion. So i guess if they hadn't hired those 13 ladies i guess all of you would have been hired instead.
current airline demographics 98.9 % white and 1.1 minority.

George:
I've got some updated info on the interview: LIE! Apparently they cannot differentiate between pathologically disruptive behavior and normal. Brownstein is like that awkward kid in grade school who sits in the back of the class and constantly seeks attention until one day he busts caps in everyone's arse. Jeremy's spoken. If he was ex-Mil, I trust they kept him far away from the hot stuff. I can't believe NashMD11 actually knows this guy (and hasn't outed him).

I think he means that if women and minorities are given a bit more preference today in hiring today it is justified because in the past the door was unjustly shut completely for them, and that anyway the professional aviation world is almost completely white male ,so what are you worried or complaining about? If you are sharp, qualified, and have a good internal recommendation or 2 wherever you apply, you should have no problems advancing in this profession. His point about his neighbor was that it was criminal that a man who put his life on the line for his country heroically, was unable to find employment in his chosen profession due solely to his race. In my opinion that is criminal. Is this all clear enough for you,or do you want me to reduce to words of one syllable so you can understand it better ? By the way I'm white, and male, and former Marine Corps infantry,so if you better think twice before you use the L word in rebuttal. Cheers, wise up,stop whining !
