Reminds me of the street urchins who beg for money in South America. If you ever made the mistake of giving them money, you could never get away from them.

Our jumpseat committee needs to come out and say this stupid practice has to stop.

I remember hearing in new hire indoc some guy talking about our Cookie tradition. Coming from another 121 carrier I thought "you've got to be kidding me."

Our payment is the reciprocal jumpseat we offer other carriers.

So it is your jumpseat if you pay for it.

These folks are overworked and underpaid IMO,,

Like we are not for what we do.

I just wanted a way to say "thanks" for they're extra effort in processing my request for a free ride.

It is not a free ride. We have an agreement that they can ride on us. This has been negotiated by our union. The gate agents and FA's have nothing to do with itl.

Maybe I won't get the dreaded "don't have the time..or there is already one ahead of you..or,,sorry this flight is weight restricted.." response next time. I like my jumpseats...

My jumpseats,[/B] yes, it's all about you. Guess what. If the flight is weight restricted, you won't get on it with the help of the gate agent.[/B]

what's ya'lls take.???
My take is that you are destroying the long established jumpseat agreements. You are now paying for preferential treatment. It's all about you and your jumpseat as you stated above. Just like our draft and carryover flyers when we are under 4a2b. Pilots that suck up draft or suck up draft when contract negoiations are going on do the whole group disservice for their own benefit.

Can't blame this one on us Memphis guys. I know we are perceived to be the link to all our other problems, but not this one.

You are right Busdrivr. But the problem is mainly in MEM when jumpseating out of MEM. It is also a problem in the cities that FedEx pilots jumpseat out of. I have fought this battle in my own home city and when I try to jumpseat out of other cities that FedEx pilots live.

I have always thought it was nice gesture, but at the same time thought this is the last thing my fat a$$ needs is to wolf down cookies in the middle of the night. So they just sit there for the maintenance guys to eat. Most of us get plenty of chow so knock it off on the cookies. This is important stuff we are hashing out now.

HoursHore, You hit the nail on the head. This practice has to stop. The biggest problem I have seen is the pilots after INDOC that have never worked in the industry think they have to buy their ride to work. The non union guy that preaches this in INDOC (and never worked outside the military) has convinced people that have never worked for another air carrier (ie militiary) that we need to buy our way and get special treatment on jumpseats. These are the people creating the problem. Before you throw a spear, I have witnessed this personally. And, by the way, I am a retired military member. But, I have worked in the airline industry for 25 years. The military members hired by FedEx take it to an extreem that they should buy food and drinks for everybody involved in their commute. Most think this gives them special treatment and will get them on the overloaded airplane. This is the problem. I agree with you that the union jumpseat committee needs to come out with a policy to end the stupid cookie tradition and buying your way onto a jumpseat. This crap needs to end.

Can't recall exactly what DG said during indoc about jumpseating offline, but I remember thinking he had a lot of misconceptions. His "information" was not. Maybe it's because he doesn't jumpseat?
