The first few days hurt like a MF but it gets better slowly. I have been sidelined for almost three years now and I am very glad I didn't allow myself to be tempted by any fly by night operators.

Thats not completely true. I dont where you get fly by night since TDX has been around since 1967. On the 747 we are on the 2 weeks on 2 weeks off sked and I have to be gone more than 15 days. Skeds arent that bad but the flying down in South America gets old real quick. Pay is avg for the ACMI operators but I will say it is very low for overall 747 opeartors but then again I get $3/hr for per diem and that is continous. (I make more per diem in a month than a Mesa f/o makes on salary.) Plus a $10/hr override for each hour flown. Dont have to worry about a crash pad since all hotels are picked up.
I am not a company cheerleader but TDX is not the best place to work and its not the worst. If you need a place to hang you hat for a while til you move on or get recalled, there are worse places to be.

MD11 Thank goodness someone can tell the difference--I thought I made it sarcastic enough that everyone would get it. We can get into a lotof discussions about military vs civ. I was taken aback by the post that military guys just walked into these neat airline jobs without having a real job!! Mine was posted in fun as I am one of those scummy guys who lucked out. Someday I'll get a real job. REDWAVE

Tradewinds is definately a bottom feeder. They furlough frequently and I have heard from a lot of guys that work there that they have trouble getting a paycheck on a regular basis. The flying is spuradic, planes are falling apart, and the pay is terrible. They recently had a plane go off the end of the runway in S. America. If I were you I'd try Southern. Pay is not that good but they take care of their crews. Also I'd even look at Kollitta before Tradewinds. If your without choice or have an opportunity to get on with tradewinds than do what you have to do. Just keep in mind that you will probably get furloughed, and you won't be doing a lot of flying.
