I've flown with an f/o that was able to do the exact same thing on his Mac laptop ... wish I could remember how he showed me he did it? Any suggestions APC'ers? Thanks

I was trying to figure-out how you were doing that, so I messed around with the LIDO FIV in Safari and saw the "Open in GoodReader" option that flashes on the upper part of the window. Never saw that before (part of the 4.2.1 update?). Anyway I learned something new and easier, thanks.

Just printing to PDF, and saving each file to a desktop "Flight Planning" folder works great. You can save the flight plan, weather, radar or satellite image, maint. history, and Lido pages when you right click on the plate, and open with preview. You just won't be able to edit any text.
Doing all of this take 5-10 minutes in the hotel before you leave your room, and allows you to review it all on the cab ride to the airport. This greatly reduces the time crunch and stress after getting to the aircraft, especially when flying internationally.

What happened to all geeky explanation stuff? I was just about to reply that I don't think that stuff is geeky, I think that most of what your original long explanation is basic Mac user stuff. Good explanation.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like most laptop users are content with their productivity, and that many iPad users are able to find work-arounds. Waiting for the next iPad version might a better option if I choose portability over functionality. I'll have to do some more research.

As some of you have alluded to, one of the guys in RGS the other day used some type of program to download LIDO stuff etc. onto the iPad...pretty slick. I also like the idea of using it as a portable EFB while an RFO.

Decisions....decisions....

I got my wife an iPad a few months a go and I took her macbook pro on my trips with me. She actually misses her macbook pro and I'm prepared to buy her a new one. iPad is convenient, but it leaves a lot to be desired.

Long time Apple guy here (1986....).... I've got a 13" MacBook Pro that I take on the road and it's the best computer purchase I have made for work. I bought it from Apple online from their refurbished stock. Does everything I need and lightweight. Thought about the iPad but realized there were some features I really needed that the iPad didn't cover.

Am now looking at the NEW MacBook Air. Need to check one out in person to make sure it will work with all my needs.

I have my own Airport Express and use it in every hotel we stay at. Sets up my own personal wireless network in the room AND adds another layer of security.

I use a magicjack for phoning purposes and really, really like that thing but it requires a USB port on your computer to work. So until the next iPad includes a USB port I won't be going there either.

I will look real hard at Apple's refurbed page after the holidays to see when the NEW MacBook Air's start to become available there.

Default Battery life

Has anyone experimented with battery life between iPad and Macbooks?? I deadheaded ORD-DEL the other day (15+ hrs), and almost drained my iPhone.

I have the 11" air. Hardware wise it lacks the obvious optical drive, has a relatively small HD (128GB), and no card reader. But there's no reason it can't do anything software wise that the other machines can't. Unless you need some insane amount of RAM/processor speed anyway.
