FedEx 767, more traction...

Is there a problem with the LRN? And do you think the "asinine policy masterminds" on the 777 forced that LRN down the throat of MD-11 Standards? I think the MD-11 bubbas decided they liked it and altered for themselves.
As and aside, I remember recurrent training recently where JR (of MD fame) lectured ALL the fleets on the approved MD landing technique. That was some useful information for us non-MD types.

The problem is the need for a "required guide" for things we are supposed to know and are already doing. Where is our " V1, rotate, positive rate-gear up" take-off guide?

Have noticed that with 2 full crews that it is more of a crew coordination tool than a memory tool. After a 4 hour nap, I can review the lrn instead of asking the other crew a bunch of questions before they go down for their nap what has and has not been accomplished.

If you print the "required guide" off from the flight planning section it states "For Reference only" across the bottom.

Lots of guys going to the 777 are coming from another widebody that doesn't do much long range anything. Maybe this policy is an attempt to toss them a bone? I'm not saying it's right, but if all you've been doing is hub turning for the last decade, you might need that guide for a while.

If you didn't have to turn it in, the pilots who need it the most would be the most likely to not look at it at all. Wouldn't serve much purpose then..

Really, how difficult and time consuming is the LRN?? And if it keeps one crew from a gross navigational error, then it's a not a bad thing.

Passport and appropriate visas...check
Plotting chart...check
Checklist....check
I only hope the new airplane (767 or airbus) fleet Captain will treat his pilots a little less like children.

I think that's the key...either some guys DON'T know how to do it, or they choose not to do it, or they forget to do it. So, maybe for some of them, a checklist they HAVE to do, will save their butts.
Sometimes I think we act like children and we become our own worst enemies.

Baron--the above is NOT a dig at you.
