Aloha Air Cargo (KH, Honolulu) began its first scheduled cargo flights to the US mainland on October 23. According to the HNL Rarebirds blog, the carrier has a lease agreement with Airborne Global Solutions' subsidiary, Cargo Aircraft Management. A B767-300(F), N226CY (msn 26544), sourced from ABX Air (GB, Wilmington, OH) operated the carrier's 5x weekly Honolulu to Los Angeles Int'l service.
The route is aimed at freight forwarders, consolidators, passenger carrier partners, and businesses looking to sync up with Aloha's existing inter-island network.

It's a fun job if you can handle the night cargo life style. Day flying is extremely limited and very senior. (3) Saab 340s, (2) 737-200's, (2) 737-300's. The 767 project could be a trial run to see if it's worth investing the money to do the flying on their own.

My bud who flies for Aloha said that their pilot contract allows the company to wet lease the 767s for a maximum of 2 yrs…which gives the company enough time to complete ETOPS certification, obtain their own 767s, and train their own pilots to fly them. Sounds like there's other expansion happening over there too. He said they are supposed to start up South Pacific freight service in the 737-300 in a few months. Can't remember all the details but I remember him mentioning Christmas Island as one of the places they'll be going to. They just opened up a cargo station in LAX this month and apparently will be rotating a 737 crew to do charter cargo from LAX to destinations in US Mainland and Mexico. I guess Aloha's sister company, Northern Air Cargo, which is owned by the same company, has been doing ad hoc cargo service out of somewhere in TX, and so Aloha will be adding a 737 + crew to start similar charter service out of LAX. The 737 is mostly night flying and the Saab is mostly day flying. My bud flies the Saab and seems to have a pretty sweet schedule. Surfs every day, home every night. He's pay protected and thinks he’ll stay in the Saab for a while due to the good schedule. Sounds like a bunch of guys at Aloha got interviews at Hawaiian this past round so it seems to be a pretty good stepping stone for dudes who want to come over to Hawaiian.
