Many 727 pilots at UPS fly around 100-150 hours per year. Reserve on that a/c is the way to go if you want UPS to be a few days per month, part-time job. The downside? You have to live in Louisville.

At what point does C-17 help? After the internal rec? I'm looking to fly cargo on the civilian side for a change.

Why do you think the 727 reserve guy has to live in SDF? You can still sit reserve in SDF (in the crash pad) and commute home when your days are finished. Just curious why you think one would need to live in base for 72 reserve.

Why would you commute to live in a crashpad?

Perhaps, because one has a life at home (in another city) with a wife who is happy with her life and job and kids who like their school and friends. (not to mention the great golf courses locally!)

I was just asking to hear their reason why, that's all.

lizardtobarney,

I don't know, I was just told that the higher-ups at UPS like guys with KC-10 and C-17 experience. The C-17 is a little baffling since we know it has very little in common with an MD-11, however maybe the systems or system logic is similar. Bottom line Rumor has it thet UPS wants pilots who have flown the heavy jets, worldwide, and those with McDonnel Douglas experience ie. KC-10/C-17 are put to the top of the list. Just a rumor I heard.
