Lido?

From what I've heard the 727 IS going to get the EFB. It's going to be mounted on the base of the sliding window (sort of around where your notepad is now). They are getting them certified as Class (I? II?) Devices - whichever one is NOT a part of the aircraft. Then when the 757 comes on board - presto-changeo you yank it off the 72, bolt it on the new airplane and away you go.

Pilot141, where did you get that one from? Personally I can't even imagine putting one computer aboard the 27, never mind one on each side. There's just no room. As well, real 727 pilots don't need no stinkin computers, after all they're radar vector equipped. It is fun, however, to sit in the back seat and listen to their constant complaints about using LIDO. Well, as fun as anything can be, while sitting in the back.

OK, Just for you, we will reinstate the Jepps subscription and require the S/O to carry both the Capt and F/O's bags

Hey, I wasn't advocating going back to Jepps, I was just commenting on what I've been seeing, now that I no longer have a window seat. But unless they actually do go to an electronic workbook on the 727, I think it was the wrong way to go. As has been stated before, the admin portion of using LIDO is very time intensive, both front end and back end. The advantage is obviously that crewmembers no longer have to carry or update their Jepps. The disadvantage is that these LIDO charts are difficult to use, never mind to brief from, and the enroute charts are rather (IMHO) poor. The company could have saved big bucks by doing what they did with LDO, i.e.,to put two sets on each jet and eliminate the crewmember's copies. But that's my opinion and it's ok if you don't agree.

At FedEx the term is used to refer to our maps and charts vendor. As of this month we no longer use Jeppessen approach plates.
Instead of carrying a 40-50# bag of binders, there is now two subscriptions of "LIDO" per aircraft. The learning curve of reading new charts has been steep; but it is worth it.
