I kept my passport on my person on a recent trip when I jumpseated--in a shirt pocket.
Wife washed shirt--didn't check pocket (who keeps anything in a shirt pocket). Looks like hell now but I guess its still legal. So--there are tradeoffs to everything. Don't forget to put you passport "away" when you are done with it...

This has nothing to do with keeping control of your passport just a story about what could be in your pocket. The other day I looked at the lav on an MD11 that had blue water all over the seat. Deja vu kicked in hard. I worked at a small airline as a baggage handler during college for free pass travel. The new guy always dumped the lav. I probably dumped the lav on that BAe-146 20 or 30 times and never got wet. It had to happen one day and it did. I opened the side panel and sure enough every ounce of liquid in the plane came down on me. The inside of my boots were wet and I tasted blue water. If that wasn't bad enough as I was driving home I felt something soft in my pocket. I looked down to see a nice fat turd in there. You never know what could be in your pocket.

Theft of Ids
Please use appropriate measures to contain and secure these items. Keep ID, passports, pilot cert. either on your person or secured in a non-public place. Any item that is left open and in plain view in a vehicle is a target. Criminals assess which cars to break into either by the attire of the individual driving, or by what they can see with in. File a police report for any type of theft, and file an ASR so we can report the theft also to the TSA.
