Where to live in the greater MEM area
#63
Hey,
If we are getting so deep into real estate, I am Memphian born and bred (more than once, actually). I am an excellent Real Estate Agent as well as a Fedex Pilot (currently on disability from all of that great Mempho BBQ
). I have lived in G'town (graduated from Gtown HS in 1978) Collierville (both of my kids went to school through HS in C'ville (one private) and I now reside inside the loop in Midtown Memphis (Central Gardens). PM me Biage if you need any real info on a transition to life in Memphis.

Been to a couple of churches
I must once again make a plug for "car commuting," i.e. living within a decent drive from MEM. I am currently 5 hours away in UCLA (Upper Corner, Lower Alabama). We have just bought a house in BHM, which does have jumpseat but is also 3:45 from the Democrat Lot. Get yourself a deisel Golf and a Sirius, and it can be the highlight of your week (if you have little kids at home, at least).
(My ace in the hole is Oxford, MS. - a college town surrounded by beautiful pastureland. 1:20 to the parking lot. Don't tell anybody (except Albie), but I may end up there....)

Huck,
One more Oxford reference and I'll have to track you down and duct tape your mouth.... There is NOTHING worth seeing in Mississippi south of Coldwater and Lake Arkabutla. Nothing!
Where are you now in B'ham?

The car-commute is definitely an option and something we'll consider too. However, making the 1.5 hr callout can be tricky.

Off the subject, but has anyone attended Al Green's church? I heard it was off Airways. That would be a kick, feeling like Jake and Elwood sneaking into the Triple Rock Church....

I'm actually looking at some property north of Tuscaloosa this weekend. I agree about the drive. Good tunes, open road...it's a good way to unwind and get that "solo" time we all need. Currently renting in Collierville and getting more spooked by the increasing crime rate everyday. Not sure MEM is a long term residence for us.
Screw the diesel Golf. I want a 40' Allegro Phateon diesel pusher motorhome. Crash pad, beach condo, mountain cabin and tail gating machine all rolled into one!
