Average life expectancy for a Japanese male - 85. American male - 77.4 per the World Health Organization (2012).
US retirement age should be 59.4 yrs if you're going to use Japan as a benchmark. You can't have it both ways (again).

Sounds like the same B.S. I heard before the age was changed from 60 to 65. Airplane would be falling out of the sky with the old guys. History shows that world airlines experienced the safest five year period after the age limit was raised to 65.

Looks like the annual training needs to include an incapacitated crew member during a Cat3 to mins on an icy runway with max xwind. Put defibrillators in the plane and show us how to use them. A refresher on CPR would be nice also. Nevermind, that would only be approved for the pax guys.

Bearing in mind that this was in the UK and many, (many) years ago ...
I was at a BALPA-organized pensions seminar and we were told that you needed to live for 14 years after retirement just to get back what you had paid in to a pension fund.
The time scale may have changed a little, but I suspect it's still around that number. So you retire at 68 from a high-stress job. Are you going to live to be 82 years old?
Retire as soon as you're able and supplement your pension income with whatever you want/are able to do if necessary. If you don't need to supplement your income - have fun! You'll live longer and get more benefit from your pension contributions.

I would like to see that "History". Even if his story is factual, the bottom line is every has the right to their own choice on how long to continue based on current law. The problem lies when the laws are changed, then choice is forced upon some to continue further than they had planned due to changing circumstances.

I guess since AARP has such a strong lobby, there is no counterbalance towards reason. My experience: a large fraction of the 64.999 guys are half deaf, slow to react, don't understand CRM and are generally miserable to be around. If I am pushing dirty airplanes around the world at that age, it's very likely that I have made a series of bad choices. I'm 40 now and can't imagine living out of a suitcase in sometimes dirty and noisy hotels eating Shanghai catering for 25+ more years.

FoxHunter, you're a bit of a troll. Why do you post this stuff? You can't come back...you're time has passed. It is okay to let it go. To move on.
Go spend time with your great grandkids. These assisted living places have all sorts of activities for people your age and with your shoulder issues.
