Bad choices I made, huh?

Gulf War I and II
Housing collapse
Greatest recession since the Great Depression
Airline restructuring through bankruptcy at all Legacies
Me personal - 3 airline bankruptcies and 3 job losses and 3 start overs
The utter dismantlement of CBA's
Poor management decisions (also known as clowns that run airlines)

You know what $hit head? I did my part. I got a clean record. I work hard. I don't abuse sick leave. I got 2 degrees. I got 6 type ratings. I play well with others. I don't treat others like dog $hit. I show up prepared. I show up early.

Bad choices I made? The system failed me is how I look at it.

Anybody who wants to do this job, especially night cargo ops, till they're 65 or 67 yrs old is crazy, has a nagging wife they're trying to avoid, or have made very bad choices over their careers. If you really want to fly, drive over to your local airport and rent a Cessna or flight instruct some eager young kid. You'll always fly in fair skies, no de-icing, holdover tables, holding, FAA ramp checks, Cat III approaches, sim checks, V-1 cuts etc etc. ..get a life

"Don't treat others ......." Based on your words I highly doubt that this is a true statement!

System failed you? Good thing that my generation is full of whiners and not yours! Just curious how many ex-wives and girlfriends out in the system? Maybe you should have included that too in the numbers your so proud on sharing.

Trying not to add fuel to the fire here but you guys aren't making it easy!

Hey Vito, while I plan to retire at 60, God willing and Mr. Obama doesn't kill us first, who are you or anybody else to decide what "a life" is? I decide what my "life" is as do you yours.

Maybe we should all save the judgments and concentrate on our own lives.

Take a lesson from your parents, "the greatest generation", don't exceed your means (mortgage crisis), work hard & retire at a point where you can actually enjoy something outside of flying. Don't pad your excess at the detriment of your kids/grandkids.

Most parents will tell you they strive for their kids to do better than themselves...your attitude is why so many are finding it hard to do so!
Very few Americans today can do better than previous generations. Sorry that is the way they stacked the deck during the last 30 years. During the work days of the "greatest generation" everyone did well if they worked hard from the janitor to the CEO and a large percentage looked forward to a pension. Today almost everyone does worse. In 1974 Delta Airlines signed a contract that would pay 747 Captains over $100,000 a year. In 2014 adjusted dollars that is over $480,000 a year. The skilled blue collar worker could support his family on his income alone. As a brand new 18 year old CFI at HPN in 1966 I earned $6 an hour. That converts to $43.84 an hour in 2014 dollars. I think you would find the current pay is closer to $25 or less today. The only middle class job that pay has kept up with inflation or beat it is the U.S. Military.

Really? Without knowing anyone's particular situation, someone accuses you of making bad decisions. So I call him out. I'd say I just treated someone like they treated me. Fact is, those of us that have been in this industry for the last 10-15 years have been dealt one bad hand after the other. No deciding about it.

For the record:

One ex wife. She cheated on me. Left me no choice. So maybe a bad decision to marry her in the first place? No boats, no vacation homes, no expensive cars, no expensive hobbies.

Lived off 25K per year the last two years. OK?

You had plenty of choices. And if you been caught, you'd be up for parole in 20 years or so. Just sayin'

Need I say more after reading the responses? Some guys love the job, love flying. All you are is a bunch of jealous, whiny little Biatches who didn't get what they EXPECTED.

Guess what? You aren't OWED anything, especially in aviation. Back in the '70s guys sat in the F/E seat for 10 years then the F/O seat for 15. I don't think the USAir guys who were furloughed with 18 years seniority are sympathetic.

So, why don't you all just shut up, yank the gear and eat your chicken crew meal. You'll get your chance when its time. Until then, grow up. You chose this profession. How about acting professionally? Those are the breaks. Accept it or get out.
