I think that is it - they can use every R24 dude by bringing them in for a HSBY week, thus increasing their short-call reserve numbers.

Haven't done R24 in a while but in the past - getting called in to sit in a hotel was just that. Never got called out to fly!

I'm sure you are aware that if enough people don't voluntarily cancel their vacation...The company can involuntarily cancel yours, right?

But, you'll probably be able to hold a Christmas vacation, if they do.

These aren't the normal hotel standbys. This is a tactic they use during peak to prevent you from dropping or trading against max OT.

95% of these hotel standbys will not get filled. Only time they get filled is when guys actually pick them up. Otherwise scheduling never assigns anyone these hotel standbys. With Fxcal closed time feature you can follow along. When it closes out, check the standby, you'll see it won't be there anymore.

Easier than putting in a bunch of airport STBYs. Cover 4 days at a time with a hotel standby, less key strokes.

I had several R24 periods converted to Hotel Standby ... I was assigned trips (sometimes REALLY good trips) on every one of them.

And ... as you probably know you get paid as if you were on a trip. That could be a good deal if you get to sit in your room and watch sports!

I don't about the others but the 757 Hotel standbys in open time aren't built like trips. There is one rest period sandwiched by two duty periods. It covers two days and pays the same as two R days. So basically, you are signing up for two R days with the "bonus" of a hotel and per diem.

I seem to remember them asking if I needed transportation from the hotel to the airport (they seemed ready to provide transportation if I requested it)?

So ... in the event that your airport car is one of the ~90 dead cars in the old Democrat lot, you might be able to do this without a car?

.

...but expect a hub turn if you "volunteer" for one of these as you will effectively be #1 on the RA list for both days.
