ABX and ATI are both in the final stages of the recall process (i.e. furloughed pilots) and will soon move to new-hires. ATI has already began accepting applications (see ATI website); ABX has not...yet.

Pay wise, and it's subject to one's opinion. ABX pays more, ATI is home-based. Take out of that what you may...mileage will vary to the individual. Sometime in the future, one or both carriers may have to adjust their new hire wage (or provide some financial incentive) to attract more qualified individuals. Each management group will have to deal with that as they venture into the new-hire market....a place they are unfamiliar with compared to the 'old days'.

ATSG will deploy 7 additional a/c into the Amazon market by the end of the year. 5 currently flying (2/ABX 3/ATI) and 7 others that will be returned to ATSG from dry leased recall. The unknowns are how the a/c and routes will be split. I'm sure most are hoping for a 50/50 among the 2 airlines. As of now, no announcements have been made and anything out there is just speculation and rumor.

Merger....well, depends on who you are speaking with. ATSG most likely wouldn't mind a merge as they will gain in productivity and reduced costs. ABX pilots...some want it, others don't. ATI...I think most are not interested for reasons posted by others as well as the potential loss of home basing and seniority/seat issue (ATI pilots just went thru a less-than-desirable merge in the recent past with CCI).

Regardless of the issues, both airlines are in a good position for positive movement and happier days ahead and can be a decent place to hang your hat if you are not headed to the majors right away or unable to for other reasons.

ATI will never die or if merged, will be the name on the certificate. Atsg wanted ATI to merge into CCI but the opSPECs ATI has especially for the combi operations used by the govt can not be transferred so ATSG just merged CCI into ATI but flushed out all of ATI management with CCI. So if there is a merger with ABX, it would be ABX name that would go away or ATSG would lose the govt contract that there is no competition for since no one else has the combi opSPECs ATI has.

ATI has some truly unique flying, especially the combi trips. You have to be ok with 16 days away from home and with some of the overseas trips can be out 21 days at a time. Not easy on a family but for a single person it can be a great experience.

Does anyone have a projected time frame for when ABX will open its window?

Is the DC-9 still the junior airframe?

LAX,

If you want to work at a company a little research might be in order. ABX hasn't flown DC-9s in years. As a heads up, The Caravelle is no longer the junior airplane at United either.

Thanks. That's funny you mention the Caravelle, as ABX used to fly it too.
