When have you seen anything in aviation management make sense? The only thing EA has to offer is the name. Why would you want to take over expensive leases?

Well unless there is some incentive from eastern on taking over those leases is the only thing I can think of. The AirTran 717 deals from delta come to mind. It's like another airline fire sale on 36th st.

Its official. The MOU has been inked with Swift. The pilots left at EA have been told to expect a merger starting in early June completed by year end. The EA name will survive and supposedly the certificate will be turned in. Details will be forthcoming by end of month on pay, seniority list intergration, etc. Will be interesting to see who sticks around. EA recently enacted work rules and are paid better then Swift. Turbulkent times ahead as you know, can't please everybody.

So what are the the "details" becuse from everything I've read it's all speculations. The rumor started when Viola tried to exchange Eastern share for Swift share back in Feb. My guess is Eastern doesn't have much money left in reserves, if any.

I think Eastern was depending on the Cuban market unfortunately that's did not work. I think investors will want there money, and I don't think Eastern has made enough. Swift is a government contractor (for most part) and I think Viola would get a lot of heat if Eastern and Swift merged or one bough the other. I think Easter is on their own and unfortunately with no much $$ left.
