The painful part was the new corporate management coming, quit paying bills, sucked all the earmarked cash out of the company, and well, you can finish the rest of the story.
For the most part, with the exception of nepotism, it's pretty much out of the control of the Ops & Mx. It's usually up to Corporate Management. Do they really want to be a success or is a resume builder for some?
My lesson learned was that keep the CV up to date as a contingency plan. Not for the purpose of moving on, but keeping an eye and ear out for management changes and arguments and incompetent performance in the ivory tower.
My favorite is the company announcement thanking a recently departed individual for their services and dedication. When translated into English they were either asked to resign their membership from the club, or fired. And lets not forget the wishes in their future endeavors. Again, translated into English, drop dead.

No trolling or flaming here.
Looks like a new owner is on the horizon, I guess that's the good news. The airline will keep on moving ahead.
More good news. Nobody is going to be fired.
But now for the not so good news. Pilots will have the opportunity to interview for their jobs as new entrants with a reshuffling of the seniority list and seat position.
Seems JN will keep his position until the transition is complete and the staffing is demonstrating stability.
And that's the news from a source within.

It is a shame. They have a great name and from what I understand some rich guys behind it. It would have been fantastic for Miami.
For what I understand they did it to themselves though. The rumor was that they did not wanted to turn this into a 36th street outfit, but that is exactly what happened.
It is like the old saying...garbage in, garbage out. The whole company is full of 36th street material. I know a lot of people from "the street" and I understand that all departments (scheduling, dispatch, pilots, maintenance etc.) are crawling with people from Miami Air, Xtra, Skyking, Falcon, Centurion etc. How can anybody build a masterpiece if 90% of the parts are rotten? They must have been dreaming over there.
Not saying that 36th street people are evil, but most of them are just incompetent. They are used to inferior departments from their old crappy airlines and bring all that stuff they did NOT learn with them to their next job. They basically do not know what they do not know. Even worse...they think they know it all?? I have friends from "the street" and from real airlines and there is a world of difference between the 2.
Apparently management over there has no clue what they are doing. They just hoped to become rich I guess. And some inexperienced pilots (36th street pilots) trying to run the show. And of course the famous 36th street Latino aviation mafia in place.
With all those incapable people in place it seems there is no other outcome expected then either cease to exist or being taken over by somebody else...iow the powers(investors) behind Eastern giving it up.
Having said that and me being old and having seen many companies go down in Miami...I feel bad for the people of Eastern. I am sure most of them are good fathers/mothers/friends etc. I wish them the best of luck.

What's even sadder is the fact that the lives of many family's hang in the balance.... dealing with the egos of incompetent management on the ops and Mx side as well as the owners, board of directors and corporate officers.
Very important prospective employees do their due diligence and perform background checks on prospective employers (not so much ops, but owners). They're the ones that can strip the company of cash, or close the doors, sell the business without notice.

Well, I don't know the future, and that's why I say yet. In no way shape or form it means I'm expecting for the checks to ever be late. They raised the first year pay recently, which in a way, it's a means to encourage people to stay, but it also shows commitment I think. We got a very nice email from the CEO today, putting out the fires on rumors. No new owner. Among other things, the board already approved the funding for the entire year of 2017. So we are going to keep fighting to keep moving forward, and do our part. We are not going anywhere folks. Not just yet.
