It makes sense and Kirby talked about this before C19 happened. The single class, 50 seat RJ is an obsolete product

He also talked about having to upgauge to keep up with the competition. Delta was sending 717’s into our hubs, and we were sending rj’s into theirs. He could be serious and the 145’s and 200’s will be phased out over the next few years, or they could just be shuffled to other hubs while he begs for scope relief. Either way, it’s a scary time for companies with 50 seaters. Air Wisconsin and CommutAir could find themselves with no flying, and SkyWest could end up grossly overstaffed.

The announcement was for all economy 50 seaters gone from EWR. It wasn't a blanket retirement by 2022. Read the title.

C5 will be fleeted with 175’s when the time comes. They came from props to jets in a fairly quick time. They will go from 50’s to 76 seaters quickly too. Is that 175 sim still down there in Houston?

But how? 175 is maxed out per United’s Scope Clause. Unless United transfers 175s from Mesa or Skywest.

and because they were maxed out on the 175 side, the 550 was born.

I agree. I don’t see Mesa nor Skywest willingly giving up there 175s to C5.

I can't imagine BGR, PDX, SYR, ALB, ROC, BTV, PQI and BWI supporting anything bigger than 50 seats for more than 10% of the year. You can cut frequency and use bigger equipment but people will change carriers to one that leaves when is convenient to them.
