Questions for Compass pilots
I am currently flying as captain on the CRJ-200 and have been for a couple years. I have also been getting tired of the situation I am in and I am beginning to realize it is taking a toll.
So I interviewed at Compass a few weeks ago with the goal of being home more and having some flying a bit closer to where I like to be. They offered me a spot in their hiring pool, with a possible class date this summer. I am grateful to them for the opportunity to maybe join them.
I easily have my 1000 PIC on the jet and so going back to the right seat won't affect my marketability later, should I choose one day to move on to another carrier. But for now Compass seems to offer an improvement in the all important 'quality of life' factor.
I'd like to hear from some Compass pilots about some of the positive and some of the negative issues at the carrier.
Obviously I'd be on the right seat and on RSV initially. What are some of the RSV issues? How are the schedules? Are they commutable? (I live in GRR)
What are the contractual issues?
I know the pitfalls of the lower pay, etc. Only I can figure that one out. But I'd like to hear from those of you who went from a regional to another more or less regional carrier.
Any information is welcome. Looking for both good and not-so-good.
BTW, I don't want to hear only from the malcontents!!! You know who you are!

65-70% of the FOs have 13 or fewer days off a month, so QOL sucks. Average pay for a 4 day trip would be about 17 hours or so, so you work a lot more for a lot less pay. The management is a mess, but the line pilots are great (so far). I don't commute, so I will leave that to someone else, but from some of the folks I work with, it is tough. Many 6 day work blocks (4-2, 3-3 days) make it so that you pretty much have to get a crash pad. We are seriously short staffed, with no relief in sight, so junior assigning is rampant - I have been on line for 6 months and have had at least 20 calls, of which I answered 0.
Best of luck and we all hope that they have a class date for you soon.

i'd probably just hang on and wait for mainline to call. It'd improve the QOL, but being reserve and at the bottom of the barrel (for god knows how long) doesn't sound like any fun either....especially when the paychecks become non-existant, or your end up on the street.

It is a tough call in today's market. I have done searches and find both good and bad.
The deal is being closer to home. I am right now rarely home because being based where I am we have almost no commutable trips (at my seniority) and lots of 2/3 day back-to-backs or day trips.
We'll see.
Anyway, I am very glad to have the option.

It's a paper airline, and if you wan't any bit of job security in this day and age(if it exist's) stay in the left seat with all of your seniority. There is NO MOVEMENT at compass!!!!! Not trying to be negative, just trying to keep it real!
Good Luck

I agree. Have patience and try getting hired at Delta when they hire again. Chances are DTW will be a fairly junior base. If you go to Compass you have no chance of getting hired at Delta. Short term QOL might be a slight improvement, but long term you would be better off where you are.
