Obviously this depends on how much hiring is being done, how much flying is being done, and what base you are in. Right now it's anywhere from 2 to 4 months. But those recently hired may be sitting reserve more than 8 months. We are at the mercy of DL and the flow-thru.

What do you guys see with the future of the DTW base? Chances of it sticking around pretty good?

Some things are worse than most: crew room in MSP is a joke (no cable, couches, recliners, or reliable internet), training department needs improvement (and is getting it), and the holding company has a very bad history of treating pilots poorly (and is currently holding a lawsuit against our union in federal court).

It is what you make of it. I personally love it here. I love living in MSP, my wife loves it here, not much more I could ask for. There are some guys who will say the opposite however.

That is an understatement.....It won't be long and you will fully understand how Hulas treats his employees and is very, very cheap when it comes to maintenance on his airplanes. Good luck.

Go party on College st. then head over to RAYS. Forget about flying, I regret leaving college st. everyday. Its weird one night you wake up on a roof with pee in your pants, the next you're married with a kid, and going to bed at 930. Forget all of the above if you were on the flight team and only walked by college st.

Hulas doesn't own the Compass jets, Delta does...

What difference does that make? Hulas will probably make sure that those jets recieve the bare minimum amount of maintenence required by law. Anything over that will depend on the terms of service, IOW if DL previously agreed to pay more. There is no way any outsource provider is going to eat extra maintenence costs out of pure benevolence to the traveling public or out of fealty towards the mothership.

Any better options? I'm sure working for BB, JO, or in your case SF would just be so much more fulfilling. Give me a break. Management can get better/worse just like in any other job.

I wouldn't want to walk away from a job opportunity just because you don't like the owner, based on past experiences with a different subsidiary of the company with different frontline management.

So, is compass trying to make pilots fly with planes that are not legal? Or are we talking about deferred discrepancys? What does the management do that is so bad? Do they press you into things that are outside of what is in the contract, or punish for using what is in the contract? Sick days, fatigue..... The corporate job that I just lost literraly had me shoveling asphalt, working on road crews, laying in puddles of oil under broken equipment when I was not flying, and then the boss had the gall to get ****ed about some bug guts on the wings. (I did not fight too hard when I got fired). From this perspective, a regional airline with a contract does not look too bad once you get past the insulting first year pay.

I'm not sure where you got this information. If you are referring to Mr. Pause and his optimistic view on life, take it with a grain of salt. If you are referring to the Pilot's Union being sued, we have not been filled in on the specifics, but I believe it has to do with the sale to TSH, and the procedures in our contract of insuring the contract is upheld.

I believe Compass has some of the best maintained aircraft around. We never fly illegally, things are deferred appropriately. On a recent aircraft I flew, it had 2 DMI's; a portion of plastic aesthetic was missing from my luggage compartment, and the Captain's luggage strap was broken. I could name a few airlines that would baulk at someone writing those things up. I'm proud we have Captains that have good moral character and the ethics to do the right things, and not make their own judgments on what is and is not worth writing up.

I haven't heard of anyone being punished for calling in sick or fatigued. We have procedures for both, and as long as they are followed, and not abused, management is reasonable.

I had a feeling that it was more like what you are describing. I had no information that anything I mentioned was going on. Some places do operate like that, and I was just asking what kind of operation it is. I don't want to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire. Since that post I got in contact with a Compass pilot I was in flight school with, and he gave me a picture more like what you are saying. It sounds like a decent place to work.
