You are right, it's a sign of the times and environment that has evolved from the IOCC implementation...there is a ton of frustration out there both on the line and in the SOC. Some of this is due to the limitations of IOCC, but most of it is due to the staffing issues the company has. When we are short, we all pay the price...it makes the schedulers job alot harder, but just remember at the end of the day everyone in the SOC's job is to move airplanes, it isn't personal. We as pilots need to understand that, but most importantly need to know when to say no. We do this by knowing the contract, it's something i try to do when i have a long flight somewhere is pull out a manual and read a little more in depth about something...knowledge is power. With all that being said just remember you are an educated, qualified, PROFESSIONAL aviator whose operating a multi-million dollar piece of equipment. Everything you say is being recorded on the phone line to the SOC. Do not let something you say be used against you in a Section 19. Just remember a Section 19 disciplinary action can be reported on your PRIA (49 U.S.C. § 44703(h)(1)(B)(ii)(II))
