They said in October of 2016 that we'd be flying more block hours and hiring would continue at 40/mo. In November, the CP came back from an interesting meeting with Delta where he said "As a whole, our Delta operation is struggling.... Maintenance is the biggest contributior to our decline in performance..." Which was followed by the company announcement that the E170s would be leaving, but not due to performance - after the CP had said our DL operation was struggling (maybe it was due to a MSP base closure) either way the company didn't give the whole truth. If it was actually due to not being a good fit, except for East coast flying, they knew MSP was closing last year, which they kept saying would not happen until it was actually announced recently. Now they say with MSP closing block hours will not be reduced. I'll believe that when I see it.

I see your logic and I'm not quick to believe things but I do believe if the planes are still here Delta will maximize their use therefore leading to similar block hours. That's just my belief and I really hope I'm right for all our sakes haha

What do you want to know? Why not just ask here, if you're wondering something other people probably are as well, and if it's opinion based well you can get more opinions...

Sure!

So here's my situation, for reference:
I've got over 1000 P121, but upgrading here means taking a base that's at least a one-leg 1-2 hour commute. Upgrade could happen this year, or next (it's hard to say here), or they could downgrade. The QOL is bad (we're talking duty days, take home pay, hotels, you name it). I feel like I have everything to gain going somewhere else, but I'd prefer it to be a short commute.

I need to figure out a few things about Compass.
1. There some different info that I've read here about upcoming class sizes. How many classes per month and what size classes have you guys heard about?

2. How many reserves lines do you guys have? I ask because I want to get a line ASAP (as does everyone), but because reserve would be a pay-cut, I need to know my (potential) place in line if I get into a July class (likely)

3. What's the call-out time for short call? I got friends and family in both surviving domiciles, but one of em' is easier for me to commute to than the other.

4. looks like junior CA is 10/15? Was that prior P121 or some lucky bloke happened to spend almost no time on reserve?

Thanks ahead of time everyone.

Brutal and honest opinion - not sayin I am 100% right.

All things are up in the air here right now.

We have a 163 lines in LAX which is where the bulk of the flying is at.
Looking at the last S list there are 240 guys per seat. Some of the availability reports sometimes have 45-60 net reserves , and that is just for LA.

MSP base closing by December , which means a bunch of senior FO line holders who are senior to everybody in LA will displace everyone and take the upgrade to to make their new commute out west worth while.

Block hours are not decreasing so some people say that the base closure will not influence progression . Base on how that displacement goes , and how many MSP guys actually break out west , will determine the inevitable s---t show that bottom guys are bound for , or if the attrition rate takes off through the roof, which i don't see happening, and thus would not make a transition worth your while.

I think realistically and what no one will tell you is that you will be looking at 10-12 months of reserve and a 2.5 - 3 yr upgrade - by then the contract ends in 2020 for the majority of our planes ...

Not trying to be negative - this is just one way of looking at whats goin on here ...

YMMV

+1 to the above situation. The time it takes to upgrade here is probably on par with Skywest and you could still hold a west coast base and be at a more stable company. Unless news comes out that we renewed the contract on our planes we have no job security past a few years, which is what our upgrade time looks like anyways.

And though the most junior Captain has prior 121, he upgraded close to a year ago. Now that the upgrades here stopped for half a year, everybody got their time and prior 121 no longer helps. The upgrade pipeline is full of people who have the time, there are no more bypasses in my estimate. We'll see for sure when the next upgrade bid comes through.

Upgrade here is longer. SkyWest just recently awarded a 9 month upgrade (granted that's bypassing people, and in DTW). Their upgrade not bypassing people is at 2 years or less.

Had you been shopping for a regional 3 years ago I would have said Compass. Today I would not give that advice. It's an ok place to get your time and move on but do your research, gather facts and make a decision from there.

I'm half tempted to suggest you stay at your current regional, but that's a decision you will have to make.
