Just wanted to throw in an aside about the recent Union elections today.
Results were posted, and I was shocked. For as much whining and complaining that occurs around here, I figured there would be a much better turn out.
There are 618 eligible voters. 90 of you voted. That is 14.5 percent voter turnout. You guys make an investment into the Association at a rate of 2% per check, and I would think that if you are pouring money into something, you'd at least want to know what you are doing with it or have a share.
Effectively, 90 people are making decisions, through the election, what the other 530-540 are going to be doing for the next three years. Let that sink in.
Based on the turnout, people must be pretty happy here or do not have a care in the world about the Association and what they do.

I think why most don’t vote is because they have no idea who the people running are.

A union is only as strong as its members who actively participate. Companies prey on weak membership numbers.

In that aspect, I was unable to get my election email out in time due to some procedural stuff. I did my best to speak to a bunch of LA crew members and those that I jumpseated on.

BTW during the last election early this year, one of the candidate already had a class date with the big boy during the ballot, glad this person didn't get selected or a huge waste of time!

We're not a career destination (and that's how it should be), but that shouldn't be mutually exclusive with wanting to make this a better place to work.

False. Didn’t get jack squat. I’m a huge union supporters and I’ve been a little disappointed how little communication there has been but now I’m thinking that I must be missing from mailings for some reason.

I saw zero campaigning by any of the candidates. Even if people wanted to make an informed decision, there was very little to no information available. When that is the case, the voting will favor the status quo.
