Sounds promising but to get the "big" picture you also need to check the numbers in SLC and SEA as a minimum.

Scheduling is being very proactive in covering out of base flying with reserves. I know that they always did this, but anecdotally to me at least, it seems they are doing it far more recently.

Not me. There is uBer/Lyft/Juno/Kew Cab/General for LGA and JFK then LIRR and NJT for EWR.

Yeah, I was based there for 20 years. I wouldn't jump into a Captain bid as a new hire in NYC. Unless you just want to make as much money as you can before you die.

Without a doubt it's not for everyone. One must have a sense of adventure to take on NYC Reserve. But all signs point to ATL88A going well junior to NYC717A so looks like almost every junior pilot will have the option to avoid NYC if they want to upgrade. Unprecedented times.

Not yet, but an unwise bid will soon make one old and grouchy.

Not if we bid what we want and want what we bid...

We get to fly for a living and get paid well to do it.
I'm not sure where there's even room to be grumpy.
There are always other jobs, airlines and industries.

But there aren't many other "part-time" jobs out there that can compete with our pay and benefits, much less the fun of actually flying an airplane. Get furloughed for a year or two (as many of our pilts have) and you will gain a new appreciation for what we have.
