5am pushes, especially base, are absolute trash. Unless you are a hard core narcoleptic there is no way you can get anywhere remotely close to 8 hours of full REM sleep when getting up at 2-3AM. And that is usually for a multi leg day. A single red eye is almost always way easier and safer.

In my 88 life I was always jelly over the guys waiting to get on the bus at 6am after a 1 leg redeye while I had gotten up not much later and was staring down a 5 leg 12+ hour day.
