5am pushes, especially base, are absolute trash. Unless you are a hard core narcoleptic there is no way you can get anywhere remotely close to 8 hours of full REM sleep when getting up at 2-3AM. And that is usually for a multi leg day. A single red eye is almost always way easier and safer.

Not much changes when you retire, if you want to non-rev, you better be on the 5:45AM.
