How so? Certainly getting put on an unused short call instead of flying will slow your progress towards filling up; that's always been the case. But the new contractual change to give one an hour towards filling up doesn't actually slow things down.

What am I missing?

What is slowing you down is that every unused SC makes it that much harder to break guarantee. In theory sitting SC can raise your pay by 1 hour per SC but it is hard to achieve.

For one thing the 1 hour only goes toward the reserve guarantee so if you break guarantee you will make extra coin. The only problem is that if you go unused on your SCs you will probably not break guarantee. I have gotten 1 hour extra a couple of times but that is it.

The more times you go unused on SC the harder it is to break guarantee - not impossible but not gonna happen too often. If guys WS to fly on off days it may kick in but who the hell wants to work for straight pay on off days?

A day of short call should credit 5:15 toward the guarantee.

Yeah, 1hr credit for a 12hr short call makes me feel like I work for a crappy regional carrier.

An example of a short call screwing: got a four day that put me over guarantee. I'd rather not fly at all, but if I am going to fly, I'd assume get it over with and fill up.
Day 1 turns into fecal matter extravaganza and we got rerouted into a domicile layover. I get released. So much for filling up.
Day 2 I sat short call and watched 3 day trips go out as green slips for which I was perfectly legal. Did not get used and subsequently lost 4:15 of pay and did not get full.
I went from being the windshield to being the bug quickly. Excrement occurs.
I like the idea of SCC = 5:15.

Did you call skeds? How did a legal reserve get passed over in favor of the company paying premium??

I would rather see us get an additional day off for every unused SC. no need to worry about hetting full with the extra days off.

I'd love to be wrong and the company with ALPA's agreement changed the language about pay for short calls. Not holding my breath...
Maybe it's because this is the way it works at UAL. Something like first two SC's go towards guarantee then any other unused SC's count as an additional hour ABOVE guarantee regardless of how much flying you did that month.

Then you have guys in base YS SC's for extra pay and commuters can enjoy LC's at guarantee unless needed.

FWIW, I have flown with a few FO's on my equip that swore that we got extra pay for SC's, and really hated bursting their bubble that it only goes towards guarantee.

happens all the time. I've been passed over on SC and a trip has gone out on a GS...I'm 100% okay with that.

You should enforce the contract if they violate the trip coverage ladder.
