If the market keeps doing what it has done this week I won't be able to leave before 75. What a freaking bloodbath

From the January seniority list to the February seniority list we lost a total of 40 pilots.

22 went to age 65
4 were over age 64 but less than 65
3 were new hires (less than a year)
11 were between age 51 and 62 (4 were SIC outs)

Basically 26 out of 37 went to age 65 last month.

Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for replies to everyone. It is interesting to read and get some insight. Appreciate it. Will help me a lot.

Here is a little more solid math..

In the last 12 months:

294 dudes retired at 65, 81% of them were on active status, that is 65% of all that retired in last year.

83 dudes retired between 60-64, 65% of them were active pilots. That's 19% of all retired in last year.

54 retired between 50-59, 47% were active, 12% of all in 12 months.

Few more that are younger, about half are active.

Yes, under Trump retirement accounts do much better, but to say that DAL has mass retirements prior to 65 is not the case yet, IMHO.

Is it too late to change profit sharing elections? Ha

Could be an investment opportunity

The non actives should be counted as not making it to 65 as well. By my math, that means that 238 of the retirements last year were pilots who made it on the line until 65 (this accounts for the non-active pilots who were no longer flying)

This puts it at 68% of pilots making retiring from active states at 65 last year. Or 32% of pilots did not make it to 65.

I'd say that could be considered a significant number.

Exactly why I bid reserve and only fly a couple hundred hours per year. I read somewhere that the average FedEx/UPS pension payout is well under 10 years.
