I'm just saying that, going to a duty (only) rig won't solve every problem. Each and every change needs to be evaluated for how it can 1) put more money into our W2s but also 2) how can the company 'optimize' it to their benefit.

I keep hearing people spout off about this rig or that rig without thinking about how it'll impact the overall QOL. You can't look at the rigs in a vacuum.
Delta is my 3rd airline. My prior 2 had MDG. One switched from a ADG to a lower value MDG. Trips ended up paying more. 30 hr layovers still existed. 30 hrs in low frequency destinations are unlikely to disappear based off how network builds schedules. In cities where one fleet has a lot of dailys, perhaps you'll see less 24hrs. I think pilot's fear of having no long layovers, and salt mine work days is vastly overblown. If there is indeed less, you can bid for them or move to a fleet that has a lot of them.

I’d even take it a step further. Pay me per duty hour and forget flight time completely with existing rigs. If a trip is lengthened by weather or any reason you’re compensated for remaining on duty. They can can have me sit wherever they like, including in a control seat.

Yes, I agree we need rigs.

The problem with 30hr layovers is a typical 3 day will fly 7:45 day 1 - arrive at 11p/12a. sleep (but not too long because you have a 430a van on day 3) then block 7:45 on the last day. For a total of 15:30-15:45 block. Essentially a min credit 3 day that could have been flown in 2 days with a day off at a random outstation.

I’d rather work 2 days in...2 days, and have my day off at home with my family. To each their own though, but they mostly go junior for a reason.

Except in that scenario I would need one day after the trip to recover from flying almost 16 hours in two days. So I’ll take that day in a company hotel.

Really? You wouldn't rather recover in the comfort of your own home? I guess this just shows how different we all are! To each their own

Depends on the city, the hotel, and who you're with. That sounds like every 3 day Europe trip, ever.

Depends...my buddy with 4 young kids at home says he gets better rest in the hotel.

But seriously, this just further showcases that for most of the things I dislike, there are other out there that prefer them. Case and point...I have guys look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I hate 6 days and wish we had a lot more 3 day Europe trips. Of course they're commuters and I have an easy drive into work. Some of them wish we had 12 day trips back

Cool. Great. Let's still get a MDG and you can bid your long layover (they will still exist). That why if the company decides to fly your balls off on the other days, you'll get paid more than 5:15 a day.
