I’d rather work 2 days in...2 days, and have my day off at home with my family. To each their own though, but they mostly go junior for a reason.
That's one way to look at it. I figure that I'd rather have as few days of suiting up as possible. Most of the 3-days I see are min credit anyway, so I'd much rather choose one that has a full day off somewhere. I find the higher block on days 1 and 3 to be completely worth it.

I like long layovers as well. But I see very little gain in a crappy trip that works you 8 hours/5 legs/3 planes (always without a single exception) then 30 hours off where you get in after the town closes and have to sleep twice followed by a super early 4AM-ish van time for another 8 hour 5 leg 3 plane day.

They do that because they can and because the "optimizer" told them to in order to save a penny. I get the mainline last/first flight marketing aspect of it, but they could easilly build one DH on day 2, usually short so it wouldn't add much credit, resulting in a trip that pays the same or more and has 2 pretty good useable layovers instead of one brunch and go to bed at a toddler's bedtime.

The real issue is the prevalence of these trips. A very small amount is maybe no big deal and allows those who love to be forced to sleep twice during a one day layover while trying to flip their body clock from late arrival to ultra early wakeup in one cycle (LOL) the option to keep bidding those little treasures. Its hard enough flipping circadian from trip to trip, but being forced to do the biologically impossible during a short trip just to save 1.5 credit a DH would generate is not something we should be defending.

That trip would be illegal as a 2 day. Delta is paying an extra 24 hours per diem and hotel costs because of the FARs. An outstation where your airplane is last in / first out creates this situation.

As a commuter, I love trips with a 30 hour. Typically have late sign in and early block in. And if your senior enough, there are plenty of those with only 14-16 hours of block on a 4 day....yes, please!

And for the bonus: the layover might be in your hometown!

Just had 3 trips in a row like that. Good times.

It’s the one (and perhaps only) benefit to being a commuter. I love bidding 30-hour layovers at home; it’s a great way to breakup the trip and not be gone as much during the month.

What exactly is going on with dtw 330 especially on the b side
It was the biggest base and I know they want to put all the new 330 neos in Seattle and msp but why did they want to shrink it by 90 crews? 30 left without back fill this time but they have said they will displace if they don’t get 90
Have the routes changed? I know dtw-gru is done next year but anything else? Seems strange that you would Shrink a base with 35 planes on order.
Maybe more 350 flying will come to dtw eventually swapping from 330?

Where was this said? Only thing I've read was that they wouldn't displace, only not backfill. But I haven't looked at anything since before the last AE.
