Heck, let him fly as a Captain if he is merely flying as an FO based on his current category assignment. That means two line pilots will get paid for staying home (or the chance to triple-dip) while he and his "seeing eye" LCP fly the trip.
I’m sure he can hold B. I thought someone said he’s checked out as a Captain.

But I guess “full control and authority-without limitation” is unclear. GMAFB.
Some of you need to learn how to read and not get so offended when your fake authority is threatened. Again..captains are not my boss. I don't know why this is such a sticking point. If you wanted to lead people, you should have applied to management.

Yes they have operational control of the aircraft but that doesn't make them airplane God. If I think you are doing something unsafe, I am well within my rights to do something up to and including taking the airplane from you. Man. You would think after all these years, reading comprehension from the over 50 crowd would be better.

No one is saying the captain is a god. Not a single person. It's a team sport, but in the end it's the captain's call unless there is a critical error.

I make it explicitly clear to the FO that if they see me doing something dumb to say and then do whatever they have to including making me cry to stop it. That is reciprocated- it's not a mistake until it gets past both of us. In the end, though... I'm leading the show. Crappy leaders get crappy results. Just because you don't accept the chain of command (when the CA tells you to do something non-standard unless it's unsafe or straight up stupid, it should be challenged then you do it) doesn't make the CA not your "boss."

I let everyone do their thing as a default, as we're trained professionals (I do make sure the FAs write down their names and the word if they don't... 5 second memory here, haha). People work better when they are let to do their job that they know, and they respect leadership better knowing they are trusted. In the end when the poop hits the fan, it's my call as CA, though.

38 years old, btw.

Ya. Old people are really annoying. Sumtimes i wonder why we even keep them around.

Family feud survey says u mite be an only child.

Seems you are wasting your time and considerable talents here with obtuse senior citizens. Perhaps its better invested in ohh idk.....maybe the atl cpo?

Agreed..it is the CA call. I do what he says 90% of the time and have had to use some pretty intense persuasion to keep one guy from flying me into tornado producing line of TS and another a big rock. I do not agree that he is my boss or any such context. He is my boss as much as he is the dispatcher's boss or the gate agent's boss.

This whole post started when people got their panties in a wad that some management guy was flying in the left seat because he didn't deserve it or earned it or too junior to be qualified, yada yada. The point i am making is that, while the company does give captains a lot of leeway as the PIC of the flight, outside the cockpit of the flights you are assigned to fly, the title is highly symbolic. It doesn't carry any true authority and trying to stand on your soapbox that so and so hasn't earned it is lunacy.

He calls himself Captain in his flight ops updates but he is listed as a SUP7ERB on the June seniority list. Maybe he merely likes the "title" from his former position and carried it with him to Delta. 😁

The fact that you guys care so much about a stupid title is just blowing my mind.

Word!

So about that contract by the amendable date... Any bets on VBs/TDYs coming rearing their heads again?

My guess is we are going to see the widget on a lot more “stuff” and other airplanes are part of the plan.
