Delta has hired a large number of ASA pilots. Probably more than American and UAL combined. I fly with ASA hires often. Keep in mind unions don’t hire or control seniority lists. Both are management functions. Unions can ask and attempt to negotiate hiring options. I can tell you however that Delta management is probably never going to agree to any flows again and the current requirement that 35% of new hires come from ALPA airlines is probably the best we will be able to do. Considering that half the new hires are military the 35% requirement is significant.

Really though , guys and girls, I think Hell will Freeze over before Delta, American, or United ever furlough again .. I was hired at Mesaba in 94’ and got more hours and pic time than Dirt .. but even though Delta owns us and pays us and we don’t exist without Delta and they own our 900’s , I don’t have a 4 year degree and so somehow I’m not worthy Lol ... But seriously folks , as Phil Collins would say .. of course I don’t know if anyone on this panel is old enough to know who that is and what music group he sang and played drums for , but anyway... The airlines used to have so many ups and downs and no stability in the 80’s thru the 2012 era , but now there aren’t many airlines left and flying has tripled in the last 25 years as far as planes and passengers ... so barring any apocalyptic destruction of the earth , the big 3 carriers will be taking in billions for the foreseeable future and hell will freeze over before any of these carriers ever furlough again .. those days are long gone ... which is a good thing

The Comair fight over resigning seniority is interesting, in that management at Delta had control of Comair, and thus hiring. There is a whole bunch more to this story that we will probably never know.

Now maybe I'm wrong... but wouldn't 1994 hire put you in as someone who turned down flow to Delta already? They did hire some pilots via SSP without a degree as well but that seems to be a double whammy with no degree and turning down flow. I can understand being salty about it, but that would make it your own choices that brought you to where you are.
Also, Delta flushed the NWA poolies at the merger, which sucked for those guys.

Edit: After reviewing an old seniority list, it looks like he did pass up the flow, it stopped at 95 hires.

ASA did shut down. All the airplanes have been transferred to SkyWest (the AS and EV tail numbers if you care to check). The only reason there were no furloughs for the pilots is that the EpxressJet pilot groups was kind enough to agree with a pilot merger, and with the economy all pilots found other jobs either at ExpressJet or elsewhere. The FAs were not so lucky and were all furloughed along with other workers.

NewCo, which became Compass, existed before all pilots were recalled to NWA. The furloughs that went to Pinnacle, only lasted a few weeks before they decided not to. We had a few furloughs here at Mesaba, however, most were not able to work for the $20K/year, we were paying at the time.

NewCo (Compass) didn't start flying until 07, which yes there were a small handful of recalls that hadn't been offered at that point. NW started hiring later 07.

Reading this thread dredges up bad memories of all the inter-regional bickering that existed prior to the shortage and competing for bonus’.
