Not sure if I should have made sail into a pun.
You keep staffing at a level that allows you to flex up without disregarding safety and agreements. Rules of the road and all...

We had a death on the ramp this summer, maybe a pause in the pace of operations would be a good thing next summer. But as is always the case the almighty dollar is supreme so we can expect more of the same next summer. This all started 2 summers ago when we the August dustup over “excess” staffing (and vacations not allowed for additional pilots that lead to the removal of SILS) created a dependence on optimization that we will never be able to shake with the retirement turnover bearing down on the training department

To be fair in the last 20 years they have been under the staffing formula only once in the 717 category for about 5 days. If I recall they paid each pilot in the category 5 hours extra pay that month.

May not be until 2021 for the MAX to potentially fly again. Ready for another summer of opportunities that were unforseen? At least the thunderstorms probably won’t be as bad.

My prior post was somewhat sarcastic and rhetorical. But to follow up on yours, can you point to the PWA section that establishes what the PWA agreed-upon remedy is if the Company fails to maintain "the total pilots required" for each position in each bid period? (22.C seems to establish there is a required number but not a remedy for failure to comply). What is the remedy if the company breaches 11.C.2 as they did with the 350 SLIs? Best I can tell, the answer to those questions lies solely within Sections 18 and 19 which puts the resolution in the hands of a slow, ineffective and often unpredictable process.

Maybe some day the System Board will follow through with their threat in the A-350 delivery grievance decision where the Board noted that “a repeated violation of this nature may well support the conclusion that a punitive award is in order.” Contracts are economic agreements. When the breach no longer becomes economical, then there will be compliance. It's up to DALPA to seek out those punitive damages (when necessary) to correct wilfull disregard and, based on the Company's actions across a spectrum of issues, that time might be fast approaching.

I was one of the affected 717 pilots. We all got an extra 5:15 for the violation. And by "we all" I mean only the 717 pilots, not every pilot.

In the case of the 717, if I recall, we got a notice from ALPA that said ALPA and the company have agreed to the remedy of an additional 5:15 of pay for going below the min staffing formula for one month. Not sure if this was decided at the MEC level or maybe a handshake deal between the MEC chairman and Dickson?

Anyone recall what the M88Bs got for the 3-month staffing ALV/TLV give (LOA) in 2009? (Might have been 2010)

Definitely don't bid a 330. I hear these "opportunities" are headed our way and we're in for a long summer! Trips are terrible. Don't forget, Airbus is scary...who is really flying it anyway? Don't bid it, especially if you're senior to me !

In the next episode of “Real Talk” with RG - he’ll discuss how you can also use the optimizer in your daily life outside of work. Now available on Workspace - the Optimizer app! Kids have soccer practice and gymnastics on the same day you got a reroute? No problem! Plug it into the optimizer for the optimal solution.

Well at least you know they won’t recommend increasing the spouse staffing formula...
