Senior Leadership: Outsourcing is Cheaper
#64
Sailing that is a great post and something we all should remember.
Should we believe the company carte blanche? Absolutely NOT! They are a business and excellent negotiators. We celebrate the great business moves they make but are shocked when they use the same tactics on us. It is foolish to think that they will treat us differently than any other group that they have to negotiate with. If we all understand that it is easier to remove emotions from the negotiations.
I think that Delta makes more money on delta planes because Delta gets a higher cut of the revenue whether that is because of number of tickets sold or revenue or both. I also believe that the JV allows us to expand into other areas because it is hard to fill a plane consistently between certain city pairs until you reach a critical mass. However, I also think that given the opportunity management would love to be able to outsource flying to whichever group made them the most money.
First and foremost TOP END SCOPE.
Second SCOPE
Third Bottom End Scope

If we don’t get a contract until next September I expect full retro. Easy. Or I vote it down.

The most important is not the balance at signing, but where the future growth will take place.
You have to watch what happens after the JV is formed and most likely the cheapest labor and the cheapest operation will post large orders and grow significantly and we will sell our tickets on them and never see growth ourselves.
This is why JVs equitable growth language is so important in our new contract.

For anyone heading to Mexico this winter, I found it interesting that I was able to buy a ticket on a flight operated by Delta, through Aeromexicos site, in comfort+, for cheaper than I could fly confirmed for even less. Round trip was $392 a person vs confirmed for even less at $467 a person (same days, same flights, same classes). Only thing is all of my flights are AM flight numbers with “operated by Delta Air Lines” in the subtext.

Same thing for me this summer to and from CUN. Travel to an all inclusive (stayed with a large family group) booked through Delta Vacation with the discount. ATL-CUN-ATL was on Delta metal, with AM flight numbers.

Organic growth
In 2007-8 I was FO on the 757/767 holding weekends off, or a very junior narrow body Captain ... today I am a " "" "" """ """ """ """ ". I earn more $, which is nice. My quality of life is much worse. I enjoy the work and serving the customers of a good business. However, as I sit and wait for the PCS run that is LATE, it gives me no pleasure to state that my remaining here is just a math problem.

He also doesn’t want to realize that we are happy, we are just disagreeing with some of the decisions senior leadership is making.
Also brainwashing is clearly a problem - company should tell us about 16% reduction is the Pacific as well, not just about 2% “growth” a few years after the reduction.
