Lots of 320’s coming and heading west. Be easy to get to SLC on the 320 in the next year.

FWIW they have mentioned Hawaii from every west coast base on the 321N.

It was said that includes SLC.

Lots of conflicting opinions here :D

I saw the August 2020 bid and 737/320/220 SLC all were 14000 employee number so I read that as sort of I can get in on any of the 3 airframe? Then again who knows if I'm reading that incorrectly...

I'd say that you're pretty safe with any of those three. As others have pointed out, SLC 220 is supposedly going to shrink a bit when SEA 220 finally opens but I still think there will be plenty of movement to keep it a junior category. I doubt you'll see really senior FOs camping out at the top of the list like you do on the 73 and 320.

Bypasses beget bypasses; the more that get them, the more that ask for them. Likewise if they shut it down, I think VERY few pilots would bid a higher hourly rate only paying category (training, loss of relative seniority and perhaps a commute) just for a couple years difference in hourly rates, usually all of which can be made up for in one's current category with their existing relative seniority in the first place.

That saves money right up until sim 3 and the reluctant pilot says oops, I guess I'll just go back to my old equipment for 6 months to a year. Or maybe says my zone isn't as dead as I thought and retires. That's sim time and money that will never be recovered and now your down a body.

In order to return to your prior category you have to bust the training. You will be pink slipped and put in the special tracking program plus draw FAA attention on your requal on the old equipment. Then you get recurrent in 6 months. There once was a gentleman’s agreement where you could quietly go back to your old equipment if the fleet CA approved. I doubt that will be happening anymore.

I doubt any of that is relevant for someone looking to retire, if they fail the sim there is most likely a latent medical reason they could also be disqualified for.

First 5 cities to HNL in the NEO are planned to be LAX, SFO, PDX, SEA, and SLC. Have also heard we will eventually do HNL from every city that Alaska and Southwest have service. That’s lots of cities to HNL.

SJC might not be far behind those. Every time I look at the seat map leaving there it’s diamond medallions only in first, comfort plus, and some in main cabin.

I turned the corner in Boston the other night and saw a air lingus 321N.

We are going to need more than 100.

Even more of a reason to embrace greater banding and/or longevity pay. Few would care about the lack of 777s if our 330s paid the same rate and we got more of them to replace the 777s. Whether we like it or not, "smaller" jets are becoming more and more capable. HNL-SLC historically has been done by 330s and 7ERs...hopefully the 321NEO rate is at least 7ER rate.

How far into europe can a 321NEO get from BOS or JFK? Maybe just a much larger international pay?

Pay banding or seniority based pay is the smart choice. But there's so much push back from pilots here I doubt it'll ever happen. Also, why do we get international pay? It's not any harder than a 5 leg 717 day.
