Perhaps the Top Men realized that the DC-7’s cruising altitude would pair well with 2020’s reduced thunderstorm activity.

They have not changed their plans every week. The 88’s have been scheduled to retire December 31st 2020 forever. The only change was they decided to keep 7 MD88’s longer than originally planned, but still retiring at end of 2020. Not sure where you got August. That has never been the case. You can go on Deltanet and look at the exact retirement date of each ship number.

they have a crazy retirement schedule, and the plan is to retire around 30 on the 31st. Can’t remember the exact number but seemed ridiculous when I heard it last week from an apd.
