Fleet Plan
#62
I flew the DC-10 as a F/O (School and sim. at AA) and then got a 727 bid, but all the Capts. I flew with who moved on to the 1011, much preferred the Lockheed. Mostly over the electronics. Which may be a little unfair, since our "10's" were delivered with 2 VOR's and 2 ADF's only.
This 1982 book tells how the widebodies (747, L1011, & DC10), were developed and marketed. Who bought which one, and why, is a fascinating story.

I think that was main reason the DC-6s and 4s kept chugging away out of YIP while you only saw the 7s sitting in weeds,
no high octane available at most airports.
would be cool though.
