Hey now, the 717 doesn't take bird strikes from the rear. It takes them from below. That baby has the aerodynamics of a toaster.

Edit: unless the engine anti ice is on*

It's grandaddy the -10 was big on landing nose wheel first.

That's only because you had to lower the gear to flush the forward lav. Or something like that.

Its in the Vol 2 somewhere they say, but no one's ever actually found it.

The DC-10 had a ******* house intervalometer for the 5 in a row coach biffies. If flushed all at once they would blow the generators off the line. The short nine's head was left over from the "6". Vacuum sucker hole and all.

Out of curiosity, did you fly the L-1011 as well. Just curious your thoughts between the tri-jets.

I flew the DC-10 as a F/O (School and sim. at AA) and then got a 727 bid, but all the Capts. I flew with who moved on to the 1011, much preferred the Lockheed. Mostly over the electronics. Which may be a little unfair, since our "10's" were delivered with 2 VOR's and 2 ADF's only.
