THIS!!!
Great post, Hank!

That is no reason to not offer them, but realistically how many people would do it?
That is what is happening at American. Pilots are seeing that 72 hours to do nothing is better than 55 hours to do nothing. I suspect that a few will view an ERP (at this point nonexistent here) in the same light.

I believe that according to DALPA figures, upwards of 40% of pilots are commuters. With the massive drop in flight frequency many are now left with only one flight per day and in some cases are now forced into 2 leg commutes. That makes even a 12 hour long call impossible. Even if you're a line holder, the trips that are left are 1 and 2 days....again, a nightmare scenario for commuters. I dont speak for all commuters, but I'd take an SIL in a heartbeat

STANDARD DISCLAIMER: Yeah, yeah, I know, commuting is a choice

Yeah, good point about commuters.

I still just don't think all that many people will take it. But it'd be easy enough to find out

Exactly my situation and I’d take a SIL if offered to have no obligation to commute right now.

Because of the limited flight schedule to commute, one day of short call became 3 days away from home and 2 nights in a hotel (never called to fly). Kind of a PITA but still don't know if I'd take a SIL for 55 hrs.

I'd take a SIL too, because I have a side job that I enjoy more than working here!

I'm sure a lot or reserve/guard guys would too.

It was a tongue in cheek comment. I was basically joking that most of the people in airports are crew members. Bad execution on my part I guess.

NYC will go very junior (relatively speaking) if the Florida folks can't get there. Combine with a 7ER pulldown up-gauging to 199 seat jets from 112/143'ish and Atlanta is going to get astonishingly senior.

It is hoped the displacment bid addresses, at least rhetorically, the route network we are going to fly.

USERRA exemptions anyone?
We had Warthogs in 1945? Was that before they re-engined them with the CF34?
